Cruel and Unusual Punishment

So, I can't believe my first post is about this but here it goes .....

One of my dd's has a habit of crying as soon as she sees work that "looks" difficult or time consuming or boring or whatever. And I'm just fed up with the tears! And no amount of words have helped. Normally I say something like,

"Kids don't cry at school when given an assignment." ...or other UNsympathetic words. To no avail. So today I tried something different since I noticed she only cries with me, not when others are looking.

READY??

I grabbed my camera and took pics of her everytime she started crying. Not that I would ever put them on my blog!?! I'm not that demented .... ;-/

I had to grab the ol' camera 4 times. But each time she stopped immediately!! I wonder how long this will work? Will it cure her? Is this normal or a character flaw? Why am I asking q's since I haven't shared this blog with anyone? When should I advertise it? Hmmmmmm .....

Welcome!!

I've decided to start a new blog specifically about our homeschooling. I like to share so much about what we're doing that I thought I should dedicate a blog to this subject. I hope it leaves me with enough material for my other blog, Smithflections.

Enjoy looking at their work and listening to me brag! Since we don't have open houses, bulletin boards, parent shows, etc. like "regular" school kids, I thought this would be nice for the kids (and myself!). And remember, PLEASE ..... "Comparison is the enemy of contentment!!!"

In other words, I will be showing our good days and good work. I probably won't talk about our fustrating moments or work less than satisfactory. For two reasons:

1. I want the kids to know that I'm proud of their achievements and it wouldn't do to show their mistakes to the whole world!!!

2.. When I reread my blog during "character building days" or on those days when the grass looks greener on the other side (i.e. school), I want this blog to serve as a reminder to all the good times and successes we've had.
